Heinrich Böll Foundation — Doctoral Scholarships (October 2026 intake)

The Heinrich Böll Foundation offers fully funded doctoral scholarships for students from developing countries to pursue a PhD at a German university. The Foundation is politically affiliated with the German Green Party and values academic excellence combined with civic engagement, ecological responsibility, and democratic values. All academic disciplines are eligible, but applications demonstrating connection to these values are most competitive.

International PhD students who completed a graduate degree abroad, applying for a PhD in Germany; priority to applicants from DAC countries not yet resident in Germany (Malawi qualifies).
