Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellowships 2027–2028

The Max Weber Programme is Europe's largest postdoctoral fellowship in the social sciences and humanities, hosting roughly 65 fellows a year across economics, history, law, political and social sciences, the Robert Schuman Centre and the School of Transnational Governance. It combines protected research time with structured training in publishing, grant writing and teaching.

Open to researchers of all nationalities. Applicants must be within five years of completing their doctorate; recent completion is preferred, and no prior postdoctoral experience is required. The programme notes special consideration for candidates from Eastern European and Balkan countries, which does not exclude African applicants but does indicate where the programme is actively widening participation.

Monthly fellowship stipend, family allowance, health insurance, research allowance, and access to EUI academic training, mentoring and seminars in Florence.

This is a residential fellowship — it does not fund a research project at the home institution, fieldwork budgets in Malawi, or equipment. Applicants beyond five years from the doctorate are ineligible.
