CODESRIA — Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa

The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa is a pan-African research council founded in 1973 and based in Dakar, Senegal. It funds social science and humanities research by African scholars directly, without requiring a partner institution outside Africa. Its programmes include residential institutes on democratic governance, gender and economic policy, comparative research networks, small grants for thesis writing, and support for meetings and publication. Institutes combine funding with structured mentoring by senior resource persons and a route to publication through CODESRIA's own press.
